Manual Hand Water Pump
A manual hand water pump draws clean water from approximately 30 metres underground. Each hand water pump serves up to 4 families with water for drinking, cooking, and washing. Hand water pumps are designed to last a minimum of 10 years and require only basic maintenance that the beneficiary community can manage independently. HNCO installs hand water pumps in clusters between houses, making them safe and accessible for daily use.
Donors receive a personalised completion report with photographs of their sponsored hand water pump within 2-3 weeks of installation.
Solar Water Pump
A solar-powered water pump serves approximately 100 people through up to 8 taps, powered entirely by solar panels. Solar water pumps are built in communal locations — village centres, schools, and mosques — and are engineered to last at least 20 years. The solar water pump eliminates the physical effort of manual pumping and provides a higher volume of clean water to larger communities.
Contribute Towards a Solar Water Pump
Donors who wish to contribute towards a larger water pump project can give from £25. Multiple contributions are pooled to fund a single solar water pump installation, allowing every donor to share in the reward of providing clean water to an entire community.

HNCO volunteers work directly in some of the country's most remote and impoverished villages, where residents have never had access to a fresh water supply. Hundreds of hand water pumps have already been installed across rural Pakistan through donor-funded projects. Solar water pump installations in Pakistan serve larger communities, often in areas where grid electricity is unavailable.

HNCO extends water pump installations to communities across Africa, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Each location is assessed for ground water depth, population density, and existing water access before a water pump type is selected. Hand pumps are typically completed within 2-3 weeks and solar pumps within 2-3 months of donation.
Once a location is confirmed, the water pump donation moves through a structured installation process.

Donating a water pump funds a long-term water source, not a short-term fix. A manual hand water pump is built to last a minimum of 10 years. A solar water pump is engineered for at least 20 years of service.

If a water pump develops a fault within its expected lifespan, the beneficiary community contacts HNCO's local partners for support. HNCO does not charge beneficiaries for repairs covered under the original installation scope.
